“YUÉ PATCHWORDK: 4 HANDS-ON WORKSHOP”

Thursday March 14, 2019

Who
Guy Gabon

Country/Region
Guadeloupe

Format
4 hands-on Workshops

Since 2005, in Guadeloupe and in Réunion Island, Guy Gabon has launched several educational projects in order to teach children and teens the importance of giving a second lease of life to our trash. For three years, together with middle schoolers, she carried out creative workshops  around an ecological-themed carnival entitled “Plastic Hell”. The first workshop was about using old wrappings to create original gift bags. The
second workshop enabled the students to create fairground festival games with recyclable materials. The third workshop was about creating small bowls made of “papier maché”. After that, in a professional high school for three years, she taught the students about Eco Design and table art. High schoolers created prototypes of tableware and other accessories with plants and recyclable materials and also invented a scenography inspired by the Louvre Museum in Paris.

The “Yué patchwork” workshop, during this second edition of the Tout-Monde
Festival, is offered to children to learn how to cut and sew blue jeans and plastic materials and  create an artwork for the “Yué Sorority” art installation and performance scheduled on March 14, 2019.

Breakdance Workshop

The “Biosphere” Project is a three-act saga named: “The Alpha”, “Sapiens”, and “The Omega”. The first part, the Alpha, was created on Saturday November 25, 2017 in Sonis’s Cultural Center. José Bertogal choreographed its creation and created the soundtrack. Biosphere was presented by the Mounka Company and was co-produced by AGIC (Guadeloupean Agency of Cultural Engineering) and the Soulshine Association. The first act, The Alpha, represents the different steps to form Earth and life evolution: Big Bang, passage of time, the rain, oceans, emergence of life, first cells, homo sapiens. The dance also explores the four elements: earth, water, fire and air, and their fusion which created God.

This workshop will enable students to learn about the scenography of such a dance project, from the dance itself to the clothing, the soundtracks and the lights. The public will learn about the evolution of Humans and Beings, in the context of the “Echo-Natures” edition of the Tout-Monde Festival. The teenagers will be invited to partake in dance courses and learn dance steps and break-dance moves that are in the show. Teenagers are invited with their families to watch the official show performed by the artists on a different date.
